Lil
Peck is an experienced professional
horseback riding instructor, coach, and
horse trainer. She emphasizes safety
but also wants you to have fun. Adults
and children are welcome; special
arrangements may be made to accommodate
families.
Lil
starts her students out with Western
saddles, using classical dressage
principles.
As
the student's seat and confidence
improves, the student may also receive
Hunt Seat instruction. Lil says that the
more things you learn to do with horses,
the more fun you can have! Lil is not a
'snob' about particular horseback riding
disciplines. Within each style of riding
there are many sub-disciplines and
everyone can find something they enjoy
and are good at. For example, there are
similarities between the correct seat
for the Western Pleasure class and the
seat used for Dressage tests. A
Hunter-Jumper rider may find that their
experience translates well to riding in
the racing events such as Barrel Racing
or Pole Bending.

Lil has
a calm, quiet manner of teaching. She
will help you to be confident and to
enjoy not only riding horses, but caring
for them and enjoying their
companionship.
You
need not own a horse of your own; Lil
has horses for students to ride and also
supplies the saddles and other tack.
Equestrian safety helmets are available,
but students should purchase their own.
(Helmets may be ordered online.)
You
will need suitable footwear; boots are
recommended. Western or cowboy boots or
English hunt seat boots will work well.

If you've never owned a horse but are
thinking about buying a horse, it is a
good idea to get horseback riding
lessons, to help you start off right.
Professional instruction can help you to
avoid common new horse owner mistakes
and will help you to get the most
enjoyment from your horse.
If you
want to learn how to show horses too,
you will be pleased to know that Lil has
been showing horses since she was a
child and has been consistently
successful in Horsemanship, Western
Pleasure, Showmanship, and Trail Class.
She has also competed in many other
events.
Under
Lil's coaching, students have won blue
ribbons at horse shows, some of them at
their very first show. Lil's daughter
was a 4-H champion in Horsemanship,
Showmanship, Trail Class, Western
Pleasure and Reining.
Lessons, if purchased by the hour, are
$35 per hour. If purchased in packages
of 4 or more lessons, the charge is
reduced to $25 per hour. Pre-purchases
are nonrefundable and non-transferable.
It is
highly recommended that horseback riding
students get the 'OK' from their
physician before commencing with
lessons. Lil will not accept any student
who has a history of fainting, dizziness
or loss of consciousness or uncontrolled
seizures. All students or their legal
parent or guardian take personal
responsibility for any and all risks
associated with horseback riding.
